Frequently asked questions.

Why would I need a stylist? Aren’t they for celebrities or the “rich and famous”?

Most of my clients are high-performing professionals. While I do work with some high-profile people, styling is not just for celebrities. I customize packages to be of service to people at different stages of their lives and career. That’s why our offerings range from the “Style Starter” to the “VIP” and “Year of Style” for those who want to fully outsource their wardrobe.

I’m planning to lose 20lbs. Isn’t it a waste to invest in styling?

No! People actually report being more successful in their weight loss journey when they get clear on their style, and have some clothes that fit and they feel great in. A “Style Starter” package would be great if you’re not ready to invest in the full process.

I’m having a baby so shouldn’t I wait till after the baby is born?

We offer help with maternity shopping so you can continue to feel amazing and show up as your best self throughout your pregnancy and beyond.

Why should I hire you over any other stylist?

The short version is, I’m highly trained, experienced, professional, and fun:)

My clients say I’m an exceptional listener, kind, knowledgeable, and a “master of my craft.”

Aside from superlatives, I have specialized degrees in addition to corporate professional experience in a range of fields - so I also understand the nuances of corporate culture and dress codes.

I hold a BA in psychology with a double minor in Fine Art & Art History from The George Washington University, and certifications in image consulting and fashion styling from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.

Over the years I’ve also done extensive self-study and trainings in Ontology, Life Coaching, NLP, eastern philosophy, and energy work.

I bring all of this experience and knowledge to my client sessions to get you the best results for your wardrobe and your life.

My style is different than yours. Will you dress me like you or in whatever is trending?

No. We work together to figure out YOUR unique style and what works for your lifestyle, body type, and budget. (As a certified image consultant, I learn about all styles and body types, not just what I like.)

What does this process have over stitch-fix or other online personal styling services?

Services like stitch-fix use are designed to feel customized but actually use algorithms to pick items for you. They also have limited brands, sizing, and colors available. The humans behind the services are mostly entry-level sales associates even if their title is “stylist,” and they’re incentivized to sell as much as possible. That means they want you to like their picks enough to keep them, but these companies rely on customers keeping things because they don’t want to deal with returns, and are not really a personalized option.

What’s the difference between a personal stylist and the people who help me at the store?

Even the most knowledgeable sales associate is limited to what’s available in the store.

Many are incentivized to sell you more stuff whether or not it benefits you and works within your wardrobe.

Also, the majority of sales associates are not trained in image consulting or how to work with your existing wardrobe. They might help you find more stuff, but won’t know how to make recommendations that benefit your wardrobe holistically with consideration to everything else you own.

A salesperson wanting to be helpful could end up selling you something you won’t wear or that isn’t the best for your shape just because that’s the best thing they have at their store.

Do you advise on hair and makeup?

I make recommendations for the kind of hair and makeup styles that will be best for you to complete your outfits. For full-service clients, this is part of the outfit styling process.

(for example a classic, sleek up-do vs. a flowy bohemian hairstyle, or a fresh faced/barely-there makeup look vs. a sultry, smokey eye)

As part of style clarity sessions, I will advise on which colors might be most flattering for you and you can use that information when consulting with your hair or makeup professional on those choices.

As part of our full-service VIP offerings, you also get special offers on consultations with our select makeup and hair experts and partners, included in your service

Are all of your services virtual? Or will you travel to see me in-person.

Yes and yes! As of 2020, all of my services are delivered virtually.

I am located in the Hudson Valley and also have “home bases” in Jersey City and North Jersey suburbs. If you’re outside the NY/NJ area I offer destination services as well.

How does Virtual Styling work? Don’t you have to see me in the clothes?

Virtual styling works through a combination of photo sharing, virtual sessions over zoom, and Stylist-On-Demand support via email and Voxer or Instagram DM.

Virtual styling works well because of ease of scheduling, photo sharing, and broader shopping selection on-line. I also include more visual, on-line resources. Like the Digital Lookbook with all your outfits pre-styled on your phone.

How do I pay for this?

I accept all major credit cards, PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle. Normally payment is taken upon booking a session, but I also offer payment plans so if the upfront investment is a concern we can figure out something that works for you.
